First of all Open you Excel Sheet in the Excel 2016. Now go to file menu here you get the option to password protect it. Click on Protect Workbook and you see an option click on Encrypt with a password as shown in the image.

When you click on Encrypt with a password. you get this box.
Now enter the password you want to use to protect this file. You have to enter the same password two times after that save the excel file normally. Now when you open this Excel file next time you need to enter the correct password.
Just remember one thing if you protect an excel file with the password and you forget the password you cannot reset it. You can also password protect the excel file in MS office 2007, 2010 and 2013 but there is a different method to that.
